I ummed and ahhed about it for a few months and finally, late one drunken night, put together the selection you find here. It's a collection of music from all over the world, mainly guitar oriented, but not exclusively so. Soko is a quirky French folk singer who's style reminds me of Daniel Johnston. Lykke Li is a Swedish chanteuse with a beautiful husky voice. I love the Grease style harmonies in Bad Kids by the Black Lips. The Ting Tings are hot stuff at the moment and this song is hellishly catchy. Operator Please are a young Aussie band with an infectious rock sound. I also think this is the first time ping pong has ever been the subject of a rock song. The Mgmt track is probably my favourite on the list at the moment. They sort of remind me of Flaming Lips and Mercury Rev, I guess that has a lot to do with the fact that Dave Fridmann produced their record. I caught Blonde Redhead at an ATP festival a few years ago and have been a fan ever since. 23 rocks. Crystal Castles seem to be flavour of the month but after having seen them live recently I understand why. Blood Red Shoes are an excellent rock 2 piece and the guitarist is dead sexy. I am endlessly fascinated by women in dresses who play guitar this well, I blame it on PJ. The Teenagers are another French band capturing the imagination at the moment. You gotta love synth infested cheesy French pop! I saw Shout Out Louds supporting the Magic Numbers a few years ago and thought their new album was pretty damn good. This is my favourite. The Kills are another 2 piece girl/boy rock band and I love the slow dirty sound of this track. Next is New Pornographers. They are another Canadian band (along with Crystal Castles) and this is a lovely song. Second to last is the relatively unknown Antlers covering MBV, I got this song from a NY music blog and found it rather fetching. Last but certainly not least is Band of Horses with Is There a Ghost. In the words of Ben Bridwell... git sum!
